TORBAY COAST AND COUNTRYSIDE TRUST TRAINEE INFORMATION SHEET POST TITLE: Assistant Marine Ranger (Kingfisher) RESPONSIBLE TO: Coastal Zone Manager MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife value and public amenity of Torbay’s coast and countryside. To increase public awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the natural environment of Torbay. To improve access and knowledge of Torbay’s coastal zone and provide opportunities for informal outdoor recreation The above post is offered in the context of the Kingfisher project and with a qualifications package to be discussed at interview and agreed and executed on successful selection. The above overall aims will be carried out in line with Trust policies. The general duties and responsibilities involved in this placement will be as follows: 1. Assisting and working with the Coastal Zone Manager on events, educational visits and activities and to ensure voluntary cover is available for the Seashore Centre 2. Assisting with current projects such as: Seagrass Project, Intertidal surveying. 3. Assisting in the staffing of guided walks and events 4. Contributing towards interpretative facilities 5. Generating and encouraging volunteers and volunteer opportunities 6. Assisting in the surveying and recording of marine life 7. Providing support to staff working with schools and colleges on site to increase understanding of the natural environment 8. Staffing the Seashore Centre, providing information to the public about the coastal zone of Torbay 9. Maintaining displays and equipment and the overall appearance of the Seashore Centre 10. Assisting and advising the public using the site and presenting a positive, helpful image at all times. 11. Ensuring that high standards of customer care and service are achieved 12. Adhering to all administrative and financial procedures relating to Events, School visits and the Seashore Centre 13. Observe all Health and Safety requirements as directed by the Coastal Zone Manager 14. Ensuring that legal, statutory and other relevant provisions governing or affecting the work are complied with 15.
