![]() Manabique Field Station Punta Manabique is where our CeCoCo project is based. The site belongs to FUNDARY a Guatemala NGO that runs the Punta Manabique protected area. The base at Manabique is used by FUNDARY in managing the Nature Reserve. Staff are based in Puerto Barrios and visit to undertake activities such as such as mammal tracking, turtle conservation, fisheries and fish farming, rubbish management and helping local communities in various economic and social ways. University students also use the base for different expeditions such as diving. There is a regular flow of people using the base and it functions very well. Solar panels and wind turbines generate all the power needed and rain and well water is used for cleaning, cooking (boiled) and washing. |
CeCoCo stands for Centros de Conectividad Costera, it is a project set up by by Ambios. Click on the CeCoCo logo above for more information. At present we are four volunteers; William, Capucine, Jessica and Henry. William is a British volunteer who is an expert in GIS Mapping and is staying here with Capucine till December. Capucine is French born and works in the field of coastal science and management. Jessica and Henry are both from a British charity called Project Trust. They are EVS funded and are on their gap years. They will be here till August 2007, working closely with the environment and the community at Manabique. Our mobility relies on FUNDARY skiffs, but we also have a 'Getaway' 6m Hobie sailing catamaran. The catamaran is taken out pretty much every day for sampling, and it is taken out once a week for a round trip to either Livingston or Puerto Barrios, sampling along the way. |
